Global CompactNetwork Sri Lanka partnered with Earth Hour Sri Lanka to celebrate Earth Hour by promoting the cause of sustainability and raising awareness on the need to Change Climate Change!

WWF’s Earth Hour is the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment and it is further strengthened through this partnership to create awareness on sustainability and climate change related issues among Sri Lankans.

Dr Rohan Fernando, Chairman of  Global Compact Network Sri Lanka said that UN Global Compact is a UN initiative that seeks to bring businesses together with UN agencies, labour organizations and civil societies to work together to support 10 universal principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption. Through the power of collective action the Global Compact seeks to promote responsible corporate citizenship and work towards the realization of the vision of a more sustainable and inclusive global economy.

TAC partners with Earth Hour Sri Lanka as official social media agency

Team TAC partnered with the Sri Lankan operations of the global energy & planet conservation awareness movement Earth Hour. The movement focuses on spreading awareness on the vitality of working in unity towards enhancing sustainability through energy & environment protection practices in the daily activities by individuals & corporates.

TAC is a local social media agency with clients across the globe and will be enhancing the Facebook presence of Earth Hour in Sri Lanka by developing content to be published through which their Sri Lankan audience can be engaged.

Take part in the People's Climate March, the largest ever global mobilisation on climate

SriLankan Airlines’ zooms in on “Earth Hour”

‘Earth Hour’ marks a stepping stone through which we all could make our move towards a greener world.

Committed to save nature’s spirited essence, SriLankan Airlines has been engaged in various green projects that aim to preserve nature. SriLankan is perhaps the first airline in South Asia to “Go Green” by making a serious commitment towards environmental protection. Taking an extra effort SriLankan has already taken measures to minimise carbon footprint, aircraft emissions and wastage while also focusing on energy saving.

Innovating with a fresh perspective

Approaching environmental issues from a novel perspective, SriLankan has drawn a corporate environment policy which aims at creating an environmental savvy mindset in the staff.

Innovating to tackle the global environmental issues, SriLankan has also introduced a revolutionary Solatube day lighting system which they have identified as the most cost effective way of bringing natural sunlight to the building. The initiative is set to reduce the Solar Heat Gain, which in turn will reduce the air conditioning load requirement for that area. By introducing this system SriLankan is able to save Rs. 800,000.00/- per year.

Cinnamon Grand takes a stand for the planet with a musical tribute for Earth Hour 2014

Sri Lanka’s largest five star city hotel Cinnamon Grand Colombo celebrated Earth Hour 2014 with a unique initiative by paying a musical tribute to Earth Hour. The tribute highlighted the need to champion causes that strive to save the planet, and the power individuals possess, to influence that change.

The video clip titled `Be an Earth Champion’ was conceptualized by the hotel’s sustainability and green teams to create awareness, whilst pledging support to making Earth Hour go beyond, an hour and a day. The Grand’s musical video was inspired by the internationally acclaimed emotive hit, `Hall Of Fame’ sung by The Scripts.

Lyrics for the track were conceptualized by Manager Marketing Communications & Sustainability Tharika Goonathilake with the vocals by talented trio Shehan Wanigasekara (Sales & Marketing), Rushani Jayakody (Marketing Communications & Sustainability) and Shehan Mendis (Marketing Communications & Sustainability). The clip is available on the hotel’s Facebook site and on YouTube Channel.

Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo Observes Earth Hour

On 29 March, millions of people around the world will turn off their lights for one hour of contemplation for the planet and celebration of their year-round commitment to protecting it.

Businesses, communities and iconic landmarks across the plant will turn off their lights for one hour, Earth Hour 2014. The annual event organized by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) has grown from a single-city initiative in 2007 to become the world's largest display of environmental action.

Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo, the only hotel in Sri Lanka to be Green Globe certified for four consecutive years, has continuously been recognized for its environmental initiatives towards sustainability tourismby minimizing waste and facilitating the recycling of materials like CFLs, incandescent bulbs, electronic waste, used oil, paper, cardboard, plastic and glass; and so will be marking Earth Hour 2014 with a host of activities.
