They have organized a candle lit dinner for all their fans and customers whilst offering everyone who visits either one of this restaurant or cafes a 10% discount on all food and beverages served during the hour from 8.30 p.m. - 9.30 p.m. on Saturday, March 23, 2013.

Celebrating Earth Hour every hour at Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo

To celebrate Earth Hour this year Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo leans towards the famous saying “Small actions lead to big changes.” The internationally awarded hotel encourages all its diners and guests to take positive action towards the environment on a daily basis and celebrates its continued commitment with a special lineup of events for Earth Hour. Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo was the first Green Globe certified hotel in Colombo and is renowned for leading by example.

Earth Hour is an annual, worldwide event which will be held on the 23rd of March from 8.30 pm to 9.30 pm. It is the largest movement for the planet in human history, spanning 7,000 cities across 152 countries with a digital reach of 200 million. The movement encourages households and businesses to turn off their nonessential lights to increase awareness about the need to take action on climate change by reducing environmental impact. With the aim of establishing and encouraging others to join an interconnected global community, Cinnamon Lakeside Colombo joins hands with the Earth Hour team to celebrate this drive with its own green initiatives. Earth Hour is much more than a symbolic action of switching off lights for an hour. It is a continuous movement driving actions, large and small.

Coco Veranda gets involved in supporting the Earth Hour celebrations

Coco Veranda gets involved in supporting the Earth Hour celebrations for the 3rd consecutive year and will be dedicated to late Mr. Sarath Sathiamoorthy who took the initiative and interest to support the campaign ascertaining the importance.

This year making it an imperative milestone by taking a simple pledge, we will bring together Coco’s Friends and family to observe the Earth Hour over an Acoustic Open Mic Session. We also take a great deal on spreading the Word and Creating Awareness on Social Media encouraging our friends to take the pledge in celebrating our Planet. All non-essential lights will be switched off at both Coco Veranda outlets at Ward Place and Crescat Boulevard to mark the hour. A Coffee Art was created portraying the “60+ Earth Hour” to kick start the campaign and have lined up few complimentary treats such as the "Earth Hour Discount" for our customers to enjoy a candlelit dinner over a lovely evening.

Textured Jersey Lanka PLC (TJ) along with hundreds of millions of others across the globe on March 23rd 2013 and switch off non-essential lights at 8.30pm. Let’s all make a positive impact on the planet that we share. We do believe that we have no Plan B for the coming era of difficulties if we do not act now. We are proud to become the national partner for Earth Hour Sri Lanka (EHSL) which the entire nation as well as the whole world actively engrosses in. TJ requests its employees to pledge to switch off their lights during Earth Hour, and take it a step further by going ‘beyond the hour’. It is not only inside the factory, but we need them to take this home, to their neighbors, friends and so on.

TJ joined EH from the year 2012 where we switched off all non-essential lights for one hour areas as walkways, corridors, street lights … etc. We noticed the tremendous support from the employees to the initiative and hence we are to do lot more this time on EHSL 2013. We are planning to form teams and send to areas which are not so familiar with the EHSL. Our objective is to spread the message across various communities and individuals so that we create awareness for those who lack.

DFCC and DVB first banks to pledge support to Earth Hour

Wednesday, March 13th, 2013, Colombo: DFCC Bank and its retail banking subsidiary DFCC Vardhana Bank (DVB), two of Sri Lanka’s leading banks commit to join millions globally to celebrate Earth Hour on March 23, 2013 at 8.30pm. They will be the first banks in Sri Lanka to pledge their support to this global initiative.

DFCC Bank and DVB remain committed to environment sustainability, as the banking group proudly joins the movement which began in 2007, highlighting the significance of global warming and other environmental issues by encouraging individuals and organisations to turn off all non-essential lights for 60 minutes.

Earth Hour, a global event organised by the World Wildlife Fund asks businesses and households to turn off non-essential lights and other electrical appliances for one hour to raise awareness towards the need to take action on climate change. DFCC and DVB call upon fellow members in the banking sector, businesses and individuals to come together and participate in the largest mass movement to date.

DFCC is a strong advocate of the environment, and has contributed in many ways to its sustainability. Their commitment to the environment was showcased when they pioneered the development of sustainable energy in Sri Lanka by supporting the first private sector grid-connected small hydropower project in the mid 1990’s.
